The Waiting Game

Going off to college means leaving friends and family behind. With Skype and ichat it has become extremely easy to stay in touch. To be respectful of my roommate, I always used headphones. So, when these stylish accessories became popular I couldn't wait to get my hands on them...until I realized they were around 80 bucks. I went to Urban Outfitters and about a month later new styles and colors had come in and a few were on sale for 40 dollars. I got really excited about the mark downs until I realized that I could feed myself for a month on forty dollars... so, I waited a little bit less than a year to get the headphones I wanted. Final purchase price, 19.99. SCORE!

So, a few months have passed since I bought my funky headphones. The other day on my way home from class, I stopped in to check out the new stuff at Urban to find my headphones were back on the shelves. For how much? 88 dollars... I guess playing the waiting game is a risk you take for a good deal.

So all in all, I scored big time and my little cousin thinks so too!

Penny-Pinching Past

Since I was little my mom(the Coupon Queen) has taught me to save money and live frugally. Of course moms are always right...but back then I still thought I knew it all. So, I was convinced that money grew on trees and I should be entitled to whatever I wanted no matter what the price tag read.

Of course I quickly realized that that wasn't true. But, it wasn't until recently when I went off to college and became more financially independent that I really understood the importance of everything my mother had always told me.

This blog is my attempt at sharing tips on how to save, where to find steals and deals, and of course a space where I can gloat at a fantastic find.

Bargain Basics

To start off I have two basic guidelines for bargain shopping:
1. Love the hunt
2. Only buy gold

First, love the hunt. Bargain shopping is always a hunt. It's like sifting through cubic zirconium in search for the real diamond. I'll be honest bargain hunting takes patience and time. So don't expect to get a good deal when you're on a strict time constraint.

Secondly, only buy gold. This is a simple rule that I still have trouble with today. By this, I simply mean you cannot go into a store, find something you like, jump up and down when you see a clearance tag and buy it. You must first ask yourself, "Am I going to really use/wear this?" and "Will I find a better deal somewhere else/at a different time?"
